Exercise, Pregnancy and Diabetes
Philadelphia (CBS) - I have often spoken about the importance of women exercising while they are pregnant. There is no doubt that a woman can have an easier delivery if she is in better condition. Of course, you need your doctor's approval to go over an exercise program, but information from Harvard tells us of another advantage.
Women who are physically active before pregnancy are less likely to develop diabetes during pregnancy.
Researchers looked at 21,765 women participating in the nurse's health study who had a pregnancy between 1990 and 1998. They found that women with the highest level of vigorous physical activity were 23% less likely to develop gestational diabetes than those who were the least active.
