EXCLUSIVE: Homeowner Speaks Out After Burglary Interrupted In Northeast Philadelphia
By Elizabeth Hur
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Two burglars sneak away from a home, thinking they're in the clear but what they didn't know -- an eye in the sky was watching their every move.
Turns out, their burglary was interrupted when the homeowners returned home.
"We were coming in the front door. They were heading out the back apparently. They jumped over, out this screen to leave."
For his protection, we are not identifying the homeowner but he is sharing his story, hoping someone watching at home will recognize the two men and help police identify and catch them.
"First you don't really believe that this is happening."
It happened when the family was returning home from church, they first found their dining area ransacked.
"We went into the bedroom and saw a lot of drawers dumped on the bed and floor."
So they called the police and detectives later tracked down the video in the 700 block of Stelwood Road in Northeast Philadelphia. The video shows the two suspects trying to avoid the family, running in the opposite direction which just happened to be toward surveillance cameras. The cameras also caught the two fleeing north on Ferndale Road toward Dunmore Street Sunday afternoon.
"As a man of faith, I forgive them. If you get all bent out of shape about it, it's not going to change anything and we're very grateful that no one was hurt. I'd like to think they will get caught, if not right away, eventually."
The homeowner says the thieves got away with some jewelry and cash. He is now in the process of installing a home security system, calling it lesson learned.
Meanwhile, police released the following suspect descriptions:
Suspect #1: White male, 20 years-of-age, thin build, beard, wearing a flyers hat, flyers jacket, jeans and black shoes.
Suspect #2: White male, black hair, beard, 20 years-of-age, wearing a dark colored jacket, black pants and shoes.
