Ex-Penn State Assistant Jerry Sandusky Seeks New Trial

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - Jerry Sandusky has asked a judge in Centre County to overturn his conviction on child sex abuse charges and grant him a new trial.
After his client was sentenced last week, Sandusky's lawyer Joe Amendola spelled out how he would proceed.
"We're going to challenge the fact that we needed more time to prepare adequately Jerry's defense."
For example, Amendola cited information that was provided by individuals and institutions that fought subpoenas.
"Well, a lot of that information after the judge ordered them to give us some selected information was coming in literally as were selecting a jury."
And, in fact, Sandusky's post-sentence motions filed Thursday do argue that his lawyers were swamped with information that could not be processed in time for the trial. The motions also argue that there was insufficient evidence against Sandusky, that the statute of limitations for some charges had expired, and that his sentence of 30 to 60 years is excessive.
