Ex-Football Coach In Delaware Given 17 Years For Rape
GEORGETOWN, Del. (AP) -- A former high school football coach in Delaware has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for raping a teenage girl.
Thomas Ott, who coached at Cape Henlopen High School and pleaded no contest in March to rape charges, was sentenced Friday in Sussex County Superior Court. He had faced up to 55 years in prison.
Ott, who in addition to coaching worked with special-education students, was charged with repeatedly raping a 16-year-old girl over a period dating to 2006. He was also accused of offensive touching and endangering the welfare of a second teen, this one male.
While free on bail last year, Ott jumped from the fire escape of a Dover building in an apparent suicide attempt. He suffered a
traumatic brain injury.
