Ex-Ambassador To The UN: Iran Won't Uphold Its End Of The Nuclear Bargain
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Dom Giordano spoke with former Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT about the nuclear agreement reached between Iran and the western nuclear powers.
Bolton, like many other longtime critics of the Obama Administration, has a negative opinion of the outcome.
"This deal is a catastrophe from the perspective of American national security interests...The Iranians continue to cheat, even on the interim agreement, and it's simply a fact that some of the most worrisome aspects about their nuclear work, their weaponization activity, their ballistic missile program to deliver the nuclear weapons, were not part of the interim agreement and are not going to be part of any final agreement."
He does not believe Iran is a trustworthy partner that will uphold their end of the bargain.
"People are not willing to look at the facts of this, to look at the circumstances of Iran's conduct these past 30 years and to believe, almost as if it's a fairly tale, that this agreement is one they'll comply with when they haven't complied with any other commitment they've made on the nuclear side going right back to the time they became a party to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty."
Bolton thinks that instead of trying to block the agreement from moving forward in the Senate, Republicans should focus on pointing out specific points they object to.
"I think the President's probably got the political situation in this country sized up. If I were a Senator, I wouldn't be focusing on whether I get to approve the treaty, I'd be dissecting, day by day, every single thing that's wrong with it because it's so filled with flaws."
