Police In South Jersey Warning Of 2 Separate Attempts To Lure Children
EVESHAM Twp., NJ (CBS) -- Evesham Police are asking for your help in finding the suspects in the attempted luring of two boys earlier this month.
Evesham Police Lt. Joseph Friel is calling what happened in the Sanctuary development around 5 p.m. on January 16th a possible attempted luring of two brothers, 10 and 11 years old.
Friel say they who told police strangers in a 4-door black sedan pulled up and offered them candy.
"The kids immediately knew that this wasn't right. The one kid pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and said he's calling the police, at that time the vehicle drove right away."
The boys said the car was driven by an older man with gray hair. In the passenger seat, a younger female, in her teens or early 20s, with long blonde hair.
Friel says a neighbor's surveillance video showed a car matching that description, and that's not all.
"We also found recently that the Oaklyn police department also had a similar incident that matched ours on the same date, within an hour of our luring."
Friel says the incidents offer parents an opportunity to make sure their kids know how to respond.
"Give them a good lesson on what they should and shouldn't do. We shouldn't talk to strangers, and if someone does approach them, they should run away, they should tell their parents when something like this does happen. We also want the adults, keep an eye out. There's a description of the vehicle, and a picture of it, if you saw something that day, if you see something today, or any day, contact the police and give us that information so we can follow it up."
