Especially Violent Night In Philadelphia Leaves 2 Dead Within 41 Minutes
By Jim Melwert
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Memorial Day turned into an especially violent night in Philadelphia, with three shootings in the span of just 41 minutes.
Four were people shot in what police say are unrelated incidents, two of them dead.
At 16th Street and Wyoming Avenue around 11 p.m., a 41-year-old man died from numerous gunshot wounds and a 46-year-old woman was shot in the leg.
"We found at least 35 spent cartridge casings on the street, and the sidewalks in this residential neighborhood, which indicates there was a large amount of shots fired," Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
Twenty minutes after that police were called to 5400 Glenmoore Avenue in the Elmwood section of the city, where a 20-year-old was shot and killed.
Then in the Fairmount section, at 20th and Poplar Streets, a man in his mid-20s was shot three times. He's in critical condition this morning.
