Environmental Centers Join Forces To Raise Awareness On Protecting Delaware River Watershed
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Representatives from 23 environmental education centers along both sides of the Delaware river are joining forces to raise public awareness about the need to be vigilant about a precious resource.
Delegates from each of the centers stretching from as far north as the Poconos to as far south as Wilmington gathered on Penn's Landing on Wednesday to launch a new project they're calling "River Days."
Linda Mead is president of the D&R Greenway Land Trust, which is spearheading events.
"Over the next six weeks, there will be 40 different offerings of opportunities to get out on the river, to help with the trail cleanup, to learn about science. And the whole idea is to teach people how to be good stewards of the river."
Mead says the river has come a long way, but there's more to be done to protect it - especially from dangers in the runoff from creeks and rivers upstream.
