Elderly Pedestrian Killed On Garden State Parkway
MIDDLETOWN, N.J. (AP) -- State police say an elderly man was struck and killed by a car while walking along the Garden State Parkway in central New Jersey this weekend.
Seventy-five-year-old Michael Lerakis of Tinton Falls was struck just before 8 p.m. Saturday in the outer northbound lane near milemarker 110 in Middletown. The impact knocked him onto the shoulder, and he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Lerakis was wearing dark clothing at the time, and authorities don't yet know why he was walking on the roadway or if he had been driving a vehicle that became disabled. An autopsy was planned for Monday.
No charges or motor vehicle summonses have been filed against the driver who struck Lerakis.
