Elderly Paraplegic Woman Dies In North Philadelphia Fire

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A fire in North Philadelphia claimed the life of a 90-year-old paraplegic woman Tuesday night.

The blaze broke out shortly before 9 p.m. at a boarding home along the 1300 block of Roosevelt Boulevard in Hunting Park.

Firefighters arrived on scene and discovered the victim's body on the second floor of the residence.

It was not immediately clear how many people lived at the boarding home or if there were any working smoke detectors, but The American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania is now assisting 10 people affected by the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
