Elderly Man Killed In Early Morning House Fire In Cobbs Creek
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A fire swept through a duplex Friday morning in Philadelphia's Cobbs Creek neighborhood, killing an elderly man. Crews were called to the 6100 block of Ludlow Street, just before 4 a.m. Friday.
"They encountered heavy smoke conditions on the second floor once we arrived," Philadelphia Fire Department Assistant Chief Charles Walker said.
Investigators tell Eyewitness News firefighters were able to control the flames in just 30 minutes. But for one man it was too late.
Crews discovered his body inside the second floor unit of the duplex.
"After conducting a search, companies found an elderly male victim that lived in the unit. The first floor was vacant property and no one was found in that area," Walker said.
Investigators are now trying to determine if there were working smoke detectors in the home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
