'El Wingador' Arrested In New Jersey On Drug Charges
BUENA VISTA, N.J. (CBS) – A New Jersey man famous for winning several wing eating titles is behind bars facing drug charges.
William "El Wingador" Simmons was arrested last Friday in Harrison Township, New Jersey, police said.
According to investigators, the 50-year-old Simmons was pulled over by New Jersey State Troopers. Authorities say a search of Simmons and his vehicle uncovered approximately $8,000 worth of powdered cocaine and more than $4,000 in cash.
Following his arrest, troopers and investigators from the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office conducted search warrants at two Woodbury Heights residences related to Simmons.
"It is regrettable that Mr. Simmons' notoriety has taken a negative turn. However, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office works closely with other law enforcement agencies to stop the significant distribution of controlled dangerous substances that is reflected in the charges against him," said Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean F. Dalton.
Simmons, who is also known as "El Wingador," is locally famous for winning numerous Wing Bowl titles.
Simmons was charged with 1st degree distribution of drugs and is being held at the Gloucester County jail on $100,000 full cash bail.
