Einstein Medical Center Branch Will Open This September In Montgomery County

EAST NORRITON, Pa. (CBS) -- The Einstein Healthcare Network is preparing to expand its footprint in the suburbs with construction of the Philadelphia area's first new hospital in more than a decade.
Slated to open in late September, Einstein Medical Center Montgomery will take hospital care to a new level.
The five-level, 360,000-square-foot facility boasts 146 beds -- all single rooms -- designed to give patients and their families a "homey" feeling that hospital officials say goes a long way to faster healing.
"The atrium is stunning," says Richard Montalbano, vice president and project executive. "The use of natural light is incredible. But when they get into their rooms they're going to be extraordinarily comfortable -- we're going to create a culture here that focuses on the patient, and I think that what they will get is outstanding medical care in a brand-new environment."
Technologically, Montalbano says it's state-of-the-art, with the latest imaging and computer equipment.
There's an economic impact as well. The $350-million project is creating about 600 construction jobs, will preserve 800 jobs from Montgomery Hospital, which will close, and will create nearly 300 new positions.
