Egypt At A Crucial Moment, Says Philadelphia-Based Mideast Expert
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Middle East expert based in Philadelphia says a lot of hard work remains ahead for the Egyptian people.
Edward Turzanski (right), senior fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, says one of the first jobs after Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak's resignation will be putting together elections.
"The goal will be to get as many people involved in a way that does not subject Egypt to hijack by the Muslim Brotherhood or any other kind of extremist group," he told KYW Newsradio on Friday, shortly after Mubarak quit.
Turzanski says the Egyptian economy also needs major changes, as 35 percent of the workforce in that country is currently is employed by the central government. He says that won't be sustainable under a new system.
