Education Provides A Strong Foundation For A Philadelphia Entrepreneur
Joe Chiarello is the owner of Murphy Business Financial Corporation in both Newtown, PA and Cherry Hill, NJ. Murphy Business & Financial Corporation is a business brokerage firm and one of the most successful brokerage firms in the U.S.A. Joe has owned 16 different businesses including franchises, start-ups and takeovers.
What is your educational background?
"I earned my Bachelor of Science in business management and financing from West Chester University in Pennsylvania."
What is your background in management?
"Early on in my career, I held managerial positions for Rita's Water Ice and Manhattan Bagel, where I gained experience in operations, management, hiring and sales. At 24, I purchased my own Manhattan Bagel in Warminster, followed by three Rita's Water Ice locations in Doylestown, Penndel and Chalfont. I understood how to run these businesses inside and out, which led to increased sales and reduced employee turnover. In the years following, I went on to own and operate more than 16 businesses."
How has your education fueled your management success?
"My career background and education have been instrumental in preparing me for a successful career in business brokerage. I have operated a number of businesses, which has proven invaluable in guiding clients through the buying and selling process. Clients appreciate my background, which is why they like to work with me. I've been in their shoes before. And, like them, I understand how to manage people, processes and products to achieve financial gains.
My education provided a strong foundation for my career. Without it, I would have never been prepared or equipped to handle the unexpected challenges that came with running a business or supporting entrepreneurs as they buy/sell their businesses."
What advice would you give someone just starting out in your field?
"Whether you are in or out of school, make sure that you plan on working harder than ever before. Never underestimate the value of hard work because success is not easy. I would also advise that you make it a point to learn from others in both big and small ways, as many educational opportunities can be derived from our day-to-day interactions."
