Eddie Fisher, South Philly Crooner Who Found Fame, Dead At 82
A once big-time showbiz star with ties to South Philadelphia -- and a local radio station -- passed away this week in California.
KYW's David Madden reports that "Dungaree Doll" was one of Eddie Fisher's many hits in the '50s and early '60s.
He married Debbie Reynolds and then, scandalously, divorced her to marry Elizabeth Taylor.
Legendary Philadelphia DJ Jerry Blavat remembers that Fisher got his first big break as a teenager on local radio station 610 WIP:
"He started on a radio show. WIP used to have "Uncle Wip," with a live broadcast, and he used to sing on WIP, and that's where he was discovered."
His marriages to Reynolds, Taylor, and Connie Stevens led to some minor movie work. He also had bouts with drugs and alcohol.

The family says Fisher died after complications from hip surgery at the age of 82.
