Ed Snider Honored With Celebration Of Life Ceremony
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Ed Snider was honored with a celebration of life at the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday. The ceremony last over an hour and a half. After a video tribute was played at the beginning of the ceremony, Lauren Hart sung God Bless America.
Speakers included CEO of Comcast Corporation Brian Roberts, Mayor Jim Kenney, Bobby Clarke, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, and Ed's son Jay Snider.
"The last full sentence he ever spoke to me, and this is what he said -- not just for me or the family," Jay Snider said fighting back tears. "He told me so I would tell you. And I quote, 'I can't thank the Flyers enough for everything they've given to me and my family. Thank you.'"
"Wells Fargo Center is the center of where Ed Snider lived," Bettman said. "The Flyers were Ed's passion. No garment fill him with greater pleasure and pride than the over sized jersey of orange, black, and jersey that bares a simple winged P for Philadelphia across the chest."
And then Drew Katz, the son of Ed's best friend Lewis Katz, told an amazing story of how Mr. Snider kicked Donald Trump out of his suite.
"It had nothing to do with his political views," Katz said. "I don't even think his political views were formed yet. It had to do with the fact that 'The Donald' wouldn't stop talking to Ed during the game. There's nothing that comes between Ed Snider and his hockey."
