Easter A Big Day For Hats, Along With Mother's Day
By Cherri Gregg
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Easter and Mother's Day are the two most popular days for ladies church hats.
They're not just gorgeous, they're also functional.
"Most church-going people, they cover their heads. At my church, when you take communion, you're supposed to cover," says Lydia Mike, the owner of the Hat Boutique in West Philadelphia.
She, along with her son Greg, has been styling ladies for more than 13 years, and she says some of the most popular hats are made of horse hair. The minister's wives, in particular, just love them.
"You can put this on all day. Your hair will be in place, and you won't be sweating," Mike says.
In addition to hats, her shop custom makes suits and more. Her son Greg says that ladies who buy off the rack should be careful:
"We try to specialize in custom work, so they can have something different. We always ask women what church they go to, because we don't want them looking alike."
Lydia and Greg say ladies should choose a hat in a material appropriate for the season and in colors that take into account their other accessories.
