Early Intervention Key To Helping Children With Developmental Disabilities
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you think your child or grandchild is developmentally delayed, speak up and seek help.
Getting help early is essential, according to Dr. Ankur Desai, medical director for PerformCare New Jersey, which connects families with available services.
"When you intervene early in life they have much more of their neurological development ahead of them," Dr. Ankur says, "so if you were to provide the intervention early, you're impacting that future neurological development for a longer period of time and you're able to make a greater impact."
Look for delays in four areas: gross motor skills, including crawling, fine motor skills, such as grasping, language, and social skills.
