Eagles Sign QB Dennis Dixon To Two-Year Contract
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Eagles have signed former Steelers and Ravens quarterback Dennis Dixon to a two-year contract, the team announced today. Dixon played for Eagles head coach Chip Kelly at the University of Oregon.
Dixon was selected in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Steelers. In four seasons with the Steelers, and one with the Ravens, Dixon has only played in five games, including three starts. He thrown for one touchdown, two interceptions, and for a QB rating of 71.4 in those games.
"We are excited to bring in Dennis Dixon to compete at the quarterback position," said Eagles general manager Howie Roseman in a statement. "Dennis is a veteran in this league that has been a part of two Super Bowl-winning teams in his career. He's also very familiar with Chip Kelly and how he operates."
Dixon came in fifth place in the 2007 Heisman voting, after leading the Oregon Ducks to a #2 overall ranking under Kelly. Dixon completed 67.7% of his passes, for 2136 yards, 20 touchdowns and four interceptions that season, with a QB rating of 161.2. He also rushed for 583 yards on 105 carries.
Terms were not immediately disclosed.
