Eagles Secondary Facing Criticism
By Ed Benkin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles secondary has been dealing with plenty of heat on and off the field.
After getting torched by the Rams in the fourth quarter of last week's game which made the game much closer than expected, the members of the secondary are looking to regroup this week. Cornerback Cary Williams understands the pressures of the position, but also believes there is room for improvement.
"You see it even when you don't make a mistake," said Williams. "It's your fault. It's just a part of the game. Being a cornerback just is what it is. You just have to go out there and try to get better each and every day."
Many fans have been calling for changes in the secondary, but Defensive Coordinator Bill Davis seems to have limited options. Davis vehemently defended his players and doesn't believe any changes need to be made to the secondary.
"Everybody takes turns having bad downs and good downs," Davis said. "If there's a change that should be made, I promise you I'd make it, but right now, it's not time. There's not a move to make."
Cornerback Brandon Boykin agrees that he and his teammates need to be better. The improvement needs to start on Sunday, when the Eagles face the surging Giants. New York has won three games in a row after dropping its first two contests of the season, and Boykin is hoping to head into the bye week on a winning note.
"It's huge," said Boykin. "This is the most important game right now. It's our division opponent and going into a bye week, it's very pivotal for us to get a win. It's a home game and it's a division game, so it's going to be big."
No matter what happens on Sunday and the rest of the season, Cornerback Bradley Fletcher insists there has been no finger pointing in the locker room.
"There's a lot of things going on," Fletcher said. "We're all in this together. We all have this record together, we're all playing the Giants together and we're all responsible what happens on the field on Sundays."
Linebacker DeMeco Ryans missed practice with a groin injury and is day-to-day. Mychal Kendricks is also day-to-day as he continues to deal with a calf injury.
