Eagles: Rookie Chaney Will Start at Middle Linebacker vs. Giants
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles returned to the practice field today as they prepared for Sunday's game with the New York Giants -- a game that could go a long way toward determining who wins the NFC East.
Both teams enter the game with 9-4 records.
Eagles' head coach Andy Reid on Wednesday disclosed that wide receiver Desean Jackson would not practice because of a foot sprain he suffered in the win over Dallas.
"(It's a) day-to-day thing, so...," Reid told reporters on Wednesday. "I think he is going to be okay, but we will just see how it goes here."
Reid also confirmed that rookie Jamar Chaney (photo above) will start at middle linebacker against the Giants in place of the injured Stewart Bradley (elbow).
"It will be a great challenge for (Chaney)," Reid said. "The Giants are a good football team and they will test the linebackers with that running game, and the way the tight end plays and the screen game, and so on. They will test your linebackers."
Reid added that newly signed defensive end Derrick Burgess will bring security to that position with his veteran presence.
