Eagles Pair Up With Philadelphia Children For 'Shop With A Jock' Event
By Dan Wing
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Eagles' wide-receiver DeSean Jackson was joined by some of his teammates Tuesday evening, as they took 50 kids on a $100 shopping spree at the Wal-Mart on South Columbus Boulevard.
While the Eagles have been pleasing fans on the field lately, the 'Shop with a Jock' event probably made them fan favorites for life, with the more than 40 kids from Youth Services and the couple local families in need that were taken shopping.
Jackson says he knows that the holidays can be a tough time for kids and families in need.
"Right now's a crucial time for a lot of kids and families who are not able to go out and treat themselves to some goods, so I really just wanted to be a help to the local community," he says.
Among the players paired up with kids were Michael Vick, Kurt Coleman, John Dorenbos and many more, including rookie Zach Ertz, who was helping Devon and Rhamir pick out some toys.
"I'm excited to be shopping with Zach," Devon said.
"My favorite thing to shop for was my Lego Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle," said Rhamir.
Store manager Frank Pellicori says Wal-Mart was happy to host the event and looks forward to doing something similar next year.
