Eagles Look To Move Past Loss
By Ed Benkin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The hype for Andy Reid's return has begun, but the Eagles are still thinking about San Diego.
The players spent much of Monday trying to correct their mistakes from Sunday's 33-30 loss to the Chargers. The sting of the defeat was still evident in the locker room on Monday and players such as Kurt Coleman were more worried about winning than beating their former coach.
"He's the opponent," said Coleman. "We have to go out there and get a win. We have to turn this thing around, and I'm excited, because it is a short turnaround week for us."
The short turnaround involves playing the Chiefs on Thursday, which means little time for preparation. Wide Receiver Jason Avant sad the team with the better mental approach will have the better chance of winning on Thursday.
"You try to back off a little bit when it comes to some type of practices," Avant said. "It will be about who prepares the best as far as classroom work. "
Much of the Eagles' classroom work will be correcting mistakes on defense. The Chargers racked up 539 yards against the Eagles on Sunday and Linebacker Connor Barwin believes little mistakes turned into big gians for San Diego.
"We had a lot of opportunities to get off the field," said Barwin. "Some of those small mistakes became big plays, but I know that after last week, we wren't as good as we thought and after this week, we aren't as bad as we thought."
Head Coach Chip Kelly accepted much of the responsibility for the team's loss, but Cornerback Brandon Boykin said the players were to blame for the defeat.
"We're the guys out there playing," Boykin said. "Chip wasn't the one out there not making the plays. We take it as our own responsibility as players to do what we're supposed to do."
Cornerback Bradley Fletcher returned to practice on Monday after being sidelined with a concussion.
