Eagles Legend Pete Pihos Dead at 87
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (CBS) - Eagles' Hall of Fame wide receiver Pete Pihos has died at the age of 87 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Pihos passed away early this morning at a North Carolina health care facility.
A fifth-round draft choice for the Eagles in 1945, Pihos was a key member of the 1948 and 1949 Eagles teams that won NFL championships. He caught the game winning touchdown in the '49 title game against the Rams.
Pihos played all nine of his pro seasons with the Eagles and made six Pro Bowls. His career included 373 catches for 6,519 yards and 61 touchdowns.
He was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1970.
