Eagles Host Competition Combining Football With Robots

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Eagles hosted a competition for area high schoolers that combined football with robotics.
On Tuesday night, students from four different high schools gathered at the Nova Care Center as robots that their groups constructed competed in agility, throwing accuracy, and kicking drills.
"This competition really prepares kids for life. Not just provides them the necessary engineering skills, but also social skills, and communication skills," said Mauricio Gutierrez with NRG Energy, the company who partnered with the eagles for the event.
Emma Neil, a senior at Mt. St. Joseph Academy, says it's great to see their hard work in action.
"It's just such an incredible experience and feeling to be here right now and see everyone. It's so cool," she said.
Abigail Bles from Camden County Technical School says she's learned a lot from her time in the competition.
"When you think of robotics, you don't really think of football, so when you're able to combine the two in this way, it shows the limitless possibilities in robotics in all different aspects of life," said Bles.
The winning team was TechFire from York.
They get a $5000 donation from NRG. The other teams each get $2000 from NRG.
