Eagles Hope Giants Don't Present Insurmountable Defense
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's another day of practice for the Eagles as they ready for Sunday's road showdown with the New York Giants.
The Eagles will face a Giants defense that leads the NFL in forced fumbles. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg indicates he is well aware of that statistic.
"They rely on that -- they go after it," Mornhinweg said on Thursday. "They do a heck of a job. The statistics show it -- the best in the league. So that will be important not only with (quarterback) Mike (Vick), but with the other fellows that get the ball in their hands."
Mornhinweg (in file photo above) also notes that the Giants are first, second, or third in every defensive category.
On the other side of the ball, Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott will start Jamar Chaney at middle linebacker on Sunday, in place of the injured Stewart Bradley (see previous story), and he has only good things to say about the rookie.
"He has come in since April and just been a true professional," said McDermott. "Takes a very mature approach to his job. And since that time has put in a lot of work, and we saw that come to fruition this past Sunday night."
McDermott also says that despite his youth Chaney has all the qualities to be a leader.
The Eagles also made a minor roster move today as running back Joique Bell -- who spent some time on the active roster earlier this season -- has been signed to the practice squad. To make room for him, tight end Cornelius Ingram has been released from that practice squad.
