Eagles Hold Second Day Of Mini-Camp
By Ed Benkin
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Eagles were back on the practice field in South Philadelphia on Wednesday, knowing time is running out to tune up before taking time off.
Wednesday was day two of a three-day mini-camp. It is the last workout session before the team breaks until training camp, and Head Coach Chip Kelly continues to see progress with his players.
"They've been out here," said Kelly. "They work at it. They're really professional. They do a great job in the classroom. They ask a lot of questions and take a lot of notes. Obviously, there's been an increase in understanding of what we are trying to do."
The question which never goes away during the workouts concerns the battle for the starting quarterback job. Kelly insists the process will take time before the starter emerges, and Michael Vick is trying to keep his focus on the field.
"Everything is so new," Vick said. "It's hard to think about being in competition with somebody else when you're competing against yourself to try and execute the offense every day. We've all done a great job of just staying focused."
Todd Herremans is entering his ninth season with the Eagles. The offensive lineman is back at guard after playing tackle for much of last season. Herremans talked about the differences between Kelly's off-season workouts and the ones under Andy Reid.
"It's a little different," said Herremans. "We used to run the OTAs with Andy pretty much like a passing camp. We'd get a big individual period for the offensive line. Here, we're getting a lot more team stuff, so we're able to operate as a full unit, which is good for everybody."
The mini-camp concludes on Thursday.
