Eagles Believe There Is Room To Improve After Bye Week
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After some frantic finishes in their first four victories, the Eagles came up with a dominating performance against the Giants. Chip Kelly is hoping it is a sign of things to come.
While the 27-0 victory over the Giants was clearly the team's best performance of the season, Kelly wants his team to focus on getting better each week. The coach wants his players to keep the same mentality as the season progresses.
"I think we did things in spurts," said Kelly. "I think we did things on a more consistent basis. To win in this league, it's about consistency and we're moving in that direction."
It is hard to argue with the mentality Kelly puts in place for his players. At 5-1, the Eagles are tied for the best record in the NFL. The defense stood out on Sunday as it recorded the franchise's first shutout since 1996. Kelly said he and Defensive Coordinator Bill Davis never thought about making drastic changes after some early-season struggles.
"We're not on a scheme operation." Kelly said. "We're not going to change our scheme from one week to another and say 'Let's try this. A 3-4 didn't work, so let's be a 4-3 team'. I think we continue to develop our players and Billy says, we grow our players."

The Eagles will now enjoy a week off before playing the Arizona Cardinals on October 26th. Some believe the timing is unfortunate after the team played its best game of the season, but Kelly doesn't think the bye will halt any momentum and believes the timing of the bye is just right.
"It's exactly at the halfway point," said Kelly. "We've played four preseason games and six regular season games. That's ten, and we've got ten to go. We're halfway through the season."
The momentum appeared to still be in place when the Eagles gathered for their team picture Monday morning.
"We set a record," Kelly said. "Four minutes and forty-seconds. We got everybody, the entire team. Every position group, the coaches and the training staff done in four minutes and forty seconds. It was the most efficient photo I've ever season."
The Eagles are hoping for similar efficiency after the bye.
