Eagles Appear Excited To Be Back On The Field

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Fans have been counting the days until the start of training camp.  The Eagles appear to be equally excited.

The players reported to the team's NovaCare Complex Friday afternoon, with the first training camp practice set for Saturday.  Quarterback Nick Foles was one of the many players who was counting the days until the start of camp.

"I didn't even sleep last night," said Foles.  "I couldn't wait to get up this morning and get everything going.  You just sort of reminisce on everything from last year and the off-season.  I know all of us are giddy.  We're all ready to go."

All of the Eagles expressed excitement about getting back onto the field.  One of the players who is especially grateful is Jeremy Maclin.  The wide receiver is returning after being sidelined by a knee injury last year, but Maclin says he has recovered and won't be thinking about another injury.

"You can't think like that," Maclin said.  "As hard as that may seem to believe, you just can't think like that.  If you do and go out there and play timid and hesitant, I think that's when the injuries happen."

One negative story to the start of camp is Lane Johnson's suspension.  The offensive lineman will miss the first four games of the season for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy.  Johnson took full responsibility for his suspension.

"The toughest part it I'm not going to be around here to battle," said Johnson.  "I was expecting to come out here and get a good start, but it's something I can't do now.  It's all my fault and I have nobody to blame but myself.  It's all on me."

Many NFL fans wonder if the rest of the league will catch up to Chip Kelly's offense in it's second season.  However, many of the Eagles think they will have an advantage with a year of experience in the system under their belts. Tight End Brent Celek is one of the players who believes the sky is the limit for the offense.

"Everybody's anxious including us," Celek said.  "We're excited to get it going and excited to see where it takes us.  We're ready to play some smash mouth football."

Safety Keelan Johnson was excused from camp as he dealt with the legal issues concerning his arrest in Arizona. The team will hold it's first workout on Saturday morning at 11:45.
