Eagles And Patriots Work Out For Second Straight Day

By Ed Benkin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Eagles and Patriots practiced together again in South Philadelphia.  The Eagles secondary is getting it's own personal workout from Tom Brady.

The Patriots' quarterback had his way with the Eagles, as he carved up the defense with a host of impressive throws.  While it wasn't easy for Chip Kelly's secondary, the head coach believes the experience of going against Brady will help his defense in the long run.

"The learning experience is pretty good," said Kelly.  "He's obviously one of the great quarterbacks to ever play this game, not just in the league right now.  When you go to the history of the game, his name is right there.  You better be where you're supposed to be when you're supposed to be there or he's going to get you, and I think that was a great challenge for us."

The battle for the starting quarterback job continues as Nick Foles and Michael Vick each had their share of reps at practice.  Kelly would not name his starter for Friday's preseason opener, but emphasized both quarterbacks will see a similar amount of snaps.

"They're both going to get reps," Kelly said.  "Whoever takes the first rep...let's not anoint them as anything.  Someone's got to be the first guy, so we'll have a plan as a staff how many reps those guys will get, and we'll go from there.  We have to have someone start the game, but I wouldn't say the guy that starts the game is going to be the starter overall."

Both Vick and Foles continue to take a businesslike approach to the competition.  Vick says Kelly has handled the quarterback battle well and has given both quarterbacks a fair chance to win the job.

"Coach has went about this whole situation with the right mindset," said Vick.  "We respect it.  We're just going to continue to keep battling each and every day of practice and keep competing."

Foles has also enjoyed the competition for the starter's spot.  However, Foles says he and Vick will continue to support each other as they go through the quarterback competition.

"I know Mike's going to be cheering me on," Foles said.  "I'm going to be right there cheering him on helping him in any way possible.  We're on the same page.  We're pushing each other each and every day in practice to become better players."

The Eagles and Patriots will hold a light workout without pads on Thursday, then will face each other in the preseason opener Friday night at Lincoln Financial Field.
