DRPA Comes Under Scrutiny For Millions Earmarked For Economic Development Projects
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Triple AAA has chimed in on the battle over how to use more than $29 million in unused economic development money at the Delaware River Port Authority.
In a letter to the Authority's board of directors, Triple AAA makes it clear just where they think that money needs to go.
"Motorists' toll money should be used for transportation related projects which are central to the DRPA's mission," says Spokeswoman Jenny Robinson - projects like redecking the Walt Whitman Bridge, for example.
The DRPA got out of the economic development business last year, but restrictions on bonds used to pay for those projects limit their use. Vice chair Jeffrey Nash thinks the board will consider some.
"They will examine each of the projects, the commitments made for those projects, the community need and decide what projects will be funded."
He expects most of the funds will be funneled into transportation projects, and some to pay down debt, before the end of the year.
