Driver Of Car Partially Submerged In Perkiomen Creek Charged With Vehicular Homicide And DUI
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. (CBS) – A man has been arrested and charged with DUI after the car he was driving crashed, killing the passenger, back in April.
Around 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, April 29th, a local resident of Douglass Township was walking along Barto Road with his sons and nephews when they encountered a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire upside-down and partially submerged in the Perkiomen Creek. The local resident was able to pull Howard Christy, II, the driver, from the car and onto the creek bank. The resident then sent his sons to call 911.
When police and fire crews arrived on the scene, the passenger, Etinye Usoro, was pulled from the vehicle. A partially full bottle of vodka also floated out of the car. The Montgomery County Coroner determined that Etinye Osoro died from drowning as a result of the crash.
In the meantime, Christy was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, where he was treated for hypothermia and other injuries. Christy's blood alcohol level was determined to be .12%, nearly twelve hours after the crash.
Investigators also discovered that the defendant did not possess a valid driver's license at the time of the crash.
