Drexel Readies For Key Game With JMU Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Drexel Dragons will look to start a new winning streak on Wednesday night as they travel down to Harrisonburg, Virginia for a big CAA match-up with James Madison.

The Dragons sit at 10-15 (8-6 in CAA) after having their six-game winning streak snapped on Sunday against Hofstra, losing at home, 81-57. The loss prior to the winning streak also came to Hofstra, 86-58, on January 21st, so needless to say the Pride have the Dragons number this season.

"Yeah, they do," Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint tells KYW Newsradio. "We've got to figure out what we need to do against these guys because it hasn't been good for those two games. They play us particularly well, it's a tough match-up for us. We may play them again in the (conference tournament), we don't know, but we've got to figure something out by that time."

One bright spot in Sunday's loss was a team high 20-point performance from junior guard Tavon Allen, who has given the Dragons a quality scoring option as of late, providing help for leading scorer Damion Lee.

"With him, it's all about him believing that he can do it," Flint says. "That's one of the things we just sort of worked on him about like, 'It's about you believing that you can score the ball at pretty much at a 15-20 point clip a game if you want to.' And he's played that way, he's a big reason why we've actually gone through a little bit of a resurgence in the season, because I think he's played better offensively."

Allen is now averaging 11.2 points a game this season.

On Wednesday, the Dragons will be visiting a James Madison team that is one game ahead of them in CAA standings (16-11 overall, 9-5 in CAA). This will be the second meeting between these two teams this season. The Dukes won the first at the DAC, 54-35, back on January 15th.

"They played us straight-up zone and said make shots," Flint says. "And we didn't. That's pretty much it. We pride ourselves on defense, you hold a team to 54 points and then you lose by (19). That says a lot about your offense. I think we're playing better offensively, because I think guys are playing with a lot  more confidence. They're good at home. We've got to go down there and play, again, the same type of defense that we actually played here. We've just got to do a better job of making shots, because I thought we got pretty decent shots against them, and be a little bit more patient."

Drexel and JMU will tip-off at 7:00 on Wednesday night.
