Drexel Professor Analyzes Statements Made By President On Zimmerman Trial

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A Drexel professor has analyzed President Obama's remarks on the George Zimmerman trial outcome.
Dr. Chuck Williams, Associate Professor of Psychology and Education, says President Obama has to walk a fine line between being president and zeroing in on some very sensitive and divisive issues, like racism.
Williams believes he did that and said something very important to the black community.
"He is speaking about race in a way that reflects a real sentiment that you find in the African-American community," says Williams. "He's doing it in a way that's candid, it's careful but it's candid, and he sort of put out there some things about how he feels about being a black man, even though he's the president."
Williams says no other president has ever had to over-identify with their racial or ethnic group, but that shows how pervasive racism is in this country and why change is needed locally and nationally.
