Drexel Hopes To Find The Offense At Southern Miss Friday
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Drexel has dropped two of its last three games as they get ready to visit Southern Mississippi on Friday night.
You don't have to do much more than take a quick look at the boxscore to see why it has been a struggle for the Dragons as of late.
"We're in the 50's (points) the last couple of games," Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint tells KYW Newsradio. "We've got to play better offensively."
Drexel (8-4) is averaging just 55.3 points over its last three games, shooting just 39.5% from the field, and 3-34 (8.8%) from three, in the process.
"I didn't think we took bad shots in those games either," Flint says. "But at times, when you start missing shots you become less aggressive. So I'm just trying to tell the guys, keep shooting the shots that we have been. They're good. They'll start falling. But we've got to get in the gym a little bit too, put a little extra time into our shooting."
Bruiser Flint Interview
Southern Miss is 12-2 this season and a perfect 5-0 at home. Last time out on Saturday, they won at Rhode Island, 77-64.
"They are really good defensively," Flint says. "They pressure you. They soft pressure you, they hard pressure you. They get back into the match-up zone that they play. It reminds me a lot of some of the things that John Chaney used to do when he was at Temple. They play extremely hard. Watching them on tape, they play with unbelievable energy. (Head coach) Donnie Tyndall has done a good job with his team. They have some athletes, not the tallest team in the world, but they have some pretty good athletes. And it's a tough place to play, so we've got to be ready to go."
This will be the first ever meeting between these two programs.
Tip-off on Friday night is set for 8:00pm in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
