Drexel Hill Man Charged After Leaving Infant In Car During Tee-Ball Game

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) -- A Drexel Hill father is free on $50,000 unsecured bail after he left his six-month-old daughter inside his vehicle on Sunday afternoon while he watched his older child play tee-ball.
About 45 minutes after leaving the infant in the car, Upper Darby police say, 33-year-old Stephen Campbell realized the child wasn't with him. He rushed back to the car, found the girl inside, and called 911.
She was rushed to a local hospital where she was treated and released.
Upper Darby police superintendent Michael Chitwood says Campbell is now charged with child endangerment and simple assault.
"Our children are our most valuable possession that we have," Chitwood said today, "and it's unconscionable to leave children in the car while you go to the store (or) while you watch a ballgame."
When medics arrived, Chitwood says, the baby was conscious but sweating profusely from the heat.
He says he can't figure out how someone could leave a child in a car, but adds that it seems to be happening more often in his jurisdiction.
