Drexel Grad Killed In Germanwings Crash Remembered
By Jan Carabeo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There were over 150 people on board a Germanwings plane when it went down Tuesday. One of them was a Drexel University graduate.
Emily Selke's friends, family and alma mater all remember the young woman as a caring individual.
She graduated with honors in 2013 earning a music industry degree. During her time, Selke was active as vice president of the service sorority Gamma Sigma Sigma, who credits Selke as an integral part in helping the chapter grow.
Members remember her as someone who always put others before herself.
Selke, along with her mother, Yvonne, died when their Germanwings flight crashed in the French Alps Tuesday. One of the woman's many friends spoke to CNN about the shocking news:
"I just keep saying over and over it's surreal," says Haley Holmes, also Selke's former Drexel roommate. "You always see these things on the news, it's horrible, but you never know anyone involved, the chances of that are so slim."
Drexel released the following statement:
"Drexel is deeply saddened to hear about the tragic loss of alumna Emily Selke and her mother. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends."
The family, through a statement released, is asking for privacy and prayers.
Officials said Thursday morning the co-pilot of the Germanwings flight intentionally crashed the plane. The third American on board not yet identified.
