Drexel U Suspends Fraternity After Sexual Assault Allegations
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police are investigating after two reports of sexual assaults at Drexel University.
The alleged assaults took place at the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity between the end of last month and last week.
Drexel University police are investigating the allegations.
The university says within the last two weeks, two students reported being assaulted at the frat house along Powelton Road.
Drexel has now issued a statement saying it "does not tolerate sexual harassment or misconduct in any form and adheres to all federal state and local requirements for intervention."
The university has also sent a required notification of the alleged sexual assaults to all students.
The fraternity has been placed on an interim suspension.
On campus, other fraternities and sororities say they fear a crackdown on Greek life activities, with the TKE allegations and national headlines over a Penn State fraternity hazing death.
Michael Adreini, a Drexel student says, "I think on their end it's just a bad look, a bad rap for the fraternity, for the organization, and Greek life as a whole. Today, especially, I'm not wearing letters, just because, I mean I'm proud to be in Greek life here, but I know others aren't so proud right now."
The university and university police are asking if anyone with more information on the alleged sexual assaults to come forward and talk to the authorities.
