Dream To Connect Pa. Turnpike With I-95 On Its Way To Becoming A Reality
(CBS) - The closure of two small Bucks County bridges, one closed a few weeks ago and one closed next week, are quiet indications that a major highway project is back in business.
You might not notice these year-long closures to lengthen each bridge unless you drive in Bristol or Bensalem Townships. They are critical parts of a decades-old dream of connecting the Pennsylvania Turnpike with I-95. The bridge in Bristol has to be longer for high-speed connector ramps and the one in Bensalem is for a new eastern toll barrier next to Philadelphia Park.
Jeff Davis is project manager:
"The critical part of the project is to modify our tolling and to get I-95 onto the Turnpike re-routed and we're able to do that in Stage One, and that's why we had look to break this project down in stages, because there's no way to go out and do a $1.4 Billion project in one shot."
Stage one is seven years. After that, who knows?
