Dozens Nabbed in Philadelphia Drug Sweeps

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police announced 84 arrests today in connection with a large scale narcotics investigation which is still ongoing.

Philadelphia police captain Tom Davidson of the Narcotics Field Division says the undercover investigation resulted in the arrest of 77 adults and seven juveniles.

He says it also resulted in police seizing nearly $100,000 worth of narcotics.

"Cocaine, crack, marijuana, heroin, pills," Davidson says.  "We were able to recover 18 weapons.  There was one that was a .40-calibre, called a Hi-Point."

That rifle was the type used in the Columbine, Colo. massacre.

Davidson says police began making arrests on Monday in the drug sweep.  Police are also analyzing the 18 weapons to see if they may have been used in other crimes in the city.
