Dozens Line Up To Get Taste Of Pizza Named Best In America
By Natasha Brown
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Long before the doors opened, the line spiraled around the building full of pizza lovers anxious to taste the pie named the best pizza in America.
Forget New York and Chicago: Philly is officially home to the best pizza in America.
Bon Appétit, the ultimate food magazine, has named Fishtown's Pizzeria Beddia the country's best pizza shop.
Andrew Alexander, of Fishtown, says, "It just tastes awesome. They make it really well. He does what he wants in terms of business. He doesn't have phone. You have to come here and obey by his rules."
The Phelps family traveled from Moorestown, New Jersey to see what all of the fuss was about.
"We're on a mission for the best pizza, so we're hoping!"
Terrence Rose was one of the first in line.
"I hear it's very delicious. It was a little pricey, but we're going to find out if it's worth it."
Owner Joe Beddia was too swamped to talk, with lines forming and only a limited amount of pizzas available.
The shop only makes 40 pizzas a day and they went very quickly. On Wednesday, the shop sold out in less than an hour.
Khalil Masso says, "I was standing in line for a good half an hour to an hour and they sold out right in front of me, two people ahead of me. I was going to try the best pizza in the country, but maybe tomorrow."
Some are returning in hours to pick up their pizza.
"It will be ready in three and a half hours," says Jill Gerngross.
