Doug Pederson Names Jim Schwartz As His Defensive Coordinator
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Jim Schwartz will become the new defensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles, head coach Doug Pederson announced during his introductory press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
"I'm proud to announce right now that Jim Schwartz will be our defensive coordinator for the 2016 Philadelphia Eagles," Pederson said. "And I'm excited to have him, his track record, his defenses that have led the National Football League. I've had a chance to coach against him and I'm glad he's on our team now. And so I'm honored to have him to be a part of my staff.

"You want to put the best people in place -- not only for the Philadelphia Eagles -- but people that are Doug Pederson people," he continued. "People that I can trust, coaches that I can trust, coaches that I can trust are doing the best things for their players."

Schwartz was a defensive coordinator for eight years with the Titans and in 2014 with the Bills. Schwartz has had success over his career with a 4-3 defensive scheme, including variations of the Wide-9.
The Eagles ran a 3-4 defensive scheme the last three seasons under Chip Kelly and Billy Davis.
