Don't Be Alarmed, Routine Sirens To Ring In Limerick
LIMERICK, Pa (CBS) - Residents who live near the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant in Montgomery County may hear something a little different this afternoon.
Residents in the 10 mile emergency planning zone around the generating station usually hear one siren test at 2 p.m. on the first Monday of every month. However, today they'll hear a second siren five minutes later.
Officials say they will be conducting a system-wide test of its new, state of the art emergency siren system which features battery backup. It will officially be implemented in April. Residents near the plant may hear a steady three-minute tone during both tests. The warning sirens are one of several methods used by county emergency management agencies to provide notification of emergencies.
