Dom Giordano Column: The Great Shore Debate
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- My Great Shore Debate for 2016 is over. I hosted representatives from Wildwood, Ocean City and Stone Harbor. It's clear that we are lucky to be so close to the Jersey Shore but also to have such diverse towns.
I know so many people who are shore town loyal. They go to a particular town as kids and then take their families to the same towns for years. Roe and I have become shore town disloyal. We both grew up going to Wildwood and we started out taking the kids there but ultimately Roe had a friend and we moved to Cape May. Even the towns are only separated by a small bridge, they are extremely different.
We loved Cape May but it was very expensive. Roe struck again with a friend and for the last three years we've rented in North Wildwood. North Wildwood has been a great blend for us with a great beach, easy access to the Boardwalk and a shore area clearly on the rise.
It's amazing how each town has its own niche. I still associate Ocean City as the ultimate family town. It's not just that they don't allow alcohol but it's clear that they don't allow rowdy behavior or businesses. Stone Harbor has the same feel but after the damage from Roe shopping on 96th Street, it's clear it's earned its title as a very pricey location at the shore.
So we've returned home to Wildwood after a long fling with Cape May. Are you shore town loyal?
