Do You Have A Case Of The Facebook Blues?

By Melony Roy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Is Facebook getting you down? A new Facebook study finds envy is growing on the social network.

If you feel lonely, frustrated or angry after you log onto Facebook, you are not alone. A study conducted by two German universities found that one in three people felt dissatisfied about their lives after spending time on the world's largest social network.

"We are such social creatures and we have been through evolution we need to look at other people and compare ourselves," Philadelphia psychologist Dr. Jeremy Frank said. "Envy is an emotion people are ashamed of and not many people admit it but it's also very powerful in motivating people."

The study also found people in their mid-30's were most likely to envy family happiness while women were more likely to envy physical attractiveness.

If you are looking for ways to deal with this envy, Dr. Frank suggests asking yourself where the envy comes from. Getting out of the house can help -- he suggests trying meetup.com to find people with similar interests, and realizing that other people's Facebook posts can be motivating for you to go out and try new things.
