DNC Launches Social Media Campaign To Find What Makes Philly Unique
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --With less than 100 days until the Democratic National Convention, the host committee has created a social media campaign to energize Philadelphians about the event coming to town.
Over the next few months, the Host Committee of the DNC is calling on Philadelphians to post what they love most about their city on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using the hastag #whatmakesphilly.
"We thought that this campaign would be a great way to bring more Philadelphians into the fun, let them showcase some of the things they think are the best parts of Philadelphia and really what makes the city the great vibrant city that it is," says Anna Adams-Sarthou, the communications director. "And this campaign seemed like an easy and fun way to send that message from Philadelphia to the rest of the world."
Adams-Sarthou says the posts can include anything that people think really captures what the city is about in their mind.
"It can be anything from a landscape, to an interesting building, to food," she says. "Philly is a great food city."
The committee will select ten posts that best reflect what the city is about and turn them into a letter from Philadelphia to the delegates. In addition, those ten posters will receive tickets to one of the host committee's official parties that will be taking place during convention week.
Adams-Sarthou says the goal of the campaign is to excite residents and convention-goers about the DNC coming to Philadelphia.
"It's a fun activity and a fun event for the city," she says. "It's a time when we want people to stay in town, we don't want them to go down the shore or go away that week, and this is a great way to start activating people to be excited about it and just be excited about helping us host the party."
Participants are encouraged to include the DNC's social handles (@PHLDNC2016) in their posts so the host committee can share their content.
The deadline to enter is June 30.
The convention will take place July 25-28.
