DNA Of Skeletal Remains Match Missing Philadelphia Woman
PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) — Police and family members are confirming that DNA of a severed foot found inside a shoe on a New Jersey beach matches a Philadelphia woman who disappeared last year.
A fisherman discovered skeletal remains of a foot inside a tennis shoe that washed ashore last month in Ocean City, N.J.
Investigators said this week that DNA testing matched the remains to 22-year-old Franchesca Alvarado. She disappeared in March 2012 when she didn't return from a trip to Atlantic City with a friend.
Her family said the hardest part has been trying to explain to Alvarado's 4-year-old daughter that her mother will never come back.
No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing. There is a $25,000 reward being offered for information in her death.
