PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It's an occasion filled with meaning - a son or daughter making the transition to adulthood in the their Jewish faith. But a local expert points out many are choosing to plan and conduct the party themselves.
Clearly an occasion for joyous celebration, but in these tough economic times not everyone can afford a massive party with all the trimmings.
Managing partner of EBE Events and Entertainment, Steve Meranus, says you'll get the best advice from friends and family members whose parties you've enjoyed. "If you liked the look and feel and flow of it then that's a good place to start!"
He says trim the list because keeping the party smaller will save you money in addition to some other handy tips. "You don't have to have printed invitations. You can use some of the services online which are free. There's nothing wrong with having a party at your home."

He says in the end the kids are easy to please. "If you've got your basic 13-year-old kid who had got a handful of buddies that just wants to have a great time, it's pretty easy to throw a party at your home where you can make the dinner or order out. And just let them be kids for three or four hours. It's not an expensive proposition and they'll always remember it as a good night."
