District Officials Say Hatboro Horsham Logo Being Used Without Authorization

HORSHAM, Pa. (CBS) - A Montgomery County school district says its logos are being used without authorization and that's taking money out of the district's coffers.
The Hatboro-Horsham School District has hired a Philadelphia-based law firm to help the district maneuver its way through the legal channels and get copyrights for the logos. District officials say they've noticed that online stores that may not be in this area are selling shirts and other products without the district's approval.
Superintendent Curtis Griffin says it's all about protecting their brand and image.
"We feel that the Hatboro Horsham School District has an outstanding image -- it's a very good brand -- and we want to make sure that we maintain that and have control over how those images of the district are being used."
Last year, the district adopted a new sponsorship policy allowing commercial sponsorships and advertisements in schools. Part of that policy includes the merchandising of Hatboro Horsham apparel and other goods.
